Need For Speed Payback: “Highway Heist” – E3 2017

NFS

Need For Speed Payback‘s new footage was shown at EA’s presentation and, by the looks of it, it seems like the Need for Speed franchise is following in the footsteps of its mentor series, The Fast and the Furious by moving from tuned car street racing to an action-racer hybrid, complete with heists and car chases.

EA’s new preview showcased a mission titled “Highway Heist,” which consisted of chasing down a truck containing a rare Koenigsegg supercar, while knocking down “enemy” vehicles along the way Burnout-style. Once close enough to the truck, you took control of the newly stolen supercar, running away from the heist scene while avoiding police cars and helicopters. The heist mission also featured lots of cutscenes and set pieces, all clearly inspired by the most recent The Fast and the Furious movies (aka, the ones not focused on tuned car races).

Need For Speed Payback‘s new footage also revealed some new gameplay elements, including the vast open-world landscapes you’ll be able to drive and barn findings just like the ones from Forza Horizon 3.

The game will feature three playable characters: Tyler (The Racer), Mac (The Showman) and Jess (The Wheelman); a new gambling system for your racing earnings, all based on risk and reward; five car classes: racers, drift, off-road, drag, and runner. And, finally, Payback will let you play single-player offline (therefore letting you pause the game), something not present in the last Need for Speed game, because reasons.
