E3 2018 – Fallout 76

We finally get our first real look at Fallout 76 on the Microsoft stage today and boy does it look good. It’s hard to tell without seeing more of the animations, but the engine looks like it got a nice over-haul, at least in the environments. Before they launched into the trailer Todd Howard came on stage and gave us a bit of information about the location and time period of this installment. He also let us know that it would be 4 times bigger than Fallout 4.

Fallout 76 will be set in the Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia and is set only 20 years after the nuclear strike that created the post-apocalyptic world of Fallout. Todd described it as a prequel for the series so it will be interesting to see just how many mutations we will see with only 20 years of radiation.

For me this seems like a perfect change for me that should hopefully make Fallout 76 feel different than the 3 or 4 since my main criticism for 4 was it felt too similar. I have a feeling we will be seeing a more lively environment as mutants and raiders haven’t decimated the lands yet.

Todd also let us know that Fallout 4 will be joining Gamepass stating: “We have had an incredible 16-year relationship with Xbox going back to Morrowind.”
