Indie Wednesday – Strategizing Time, Analyzing Crime, and Working Overtime
Welcome to Way Too Many Indies Wednesdays where we highlight four recently released or upcoming indie games that have caught our eye. In a market where so many games can get lost in the shuffle, some true gems can sneak right past us without us knowing. These are the four games this week that we want to keep our eye on, and we think you should as well!
This week is brought to you by our author, Heidi Hawes. This week’s collection is pretty varied, ranging from a time-traveling strategy platformer, a detective sci-fi adventure, an electronic repair shop simulator, to a horror farming sim (it wouldn’t be one of my groupings without at least one horror title). Take a look at some of the indies that caught our attention this week and consider checking them out and Wishlisting those that speak to you.

“Back In Time is a fast-paced time travel action adventure where you travel through time to prevent disasters. Rewrite history by making critical choices, unraveling mysteries, & manipulating time itself. Explore real-world locations, and uncover secrets in a twist-filled story with evolving gameplay.” Back In Time has a little bit of everything: Action, Adventure, Platforming, Strategy, and Time Travel! All that’s missing is a DeLorean… unless there’s one that’s not featured in the trailers. At any rate, I’m in for the ride!

“A grizzled private eye in a sci-fi adventure takes a murder case no one else will touch. He’s seen it all before, but nothing’s prepared him for a conspiracy that leads off-world. Something big is about to happen. Whatever it is… it goes live at midnight.” From the team that brough us the fantastic Blood Nova and The Corruption Within, Cosmic Void is back with another delightfully bizarre pixelated adventure that I’ll be diving into in just a few more days!

“Run a quaint electronics repair shop in mid-2000s Tokyo. Grow your business by carefully restoring iconic video game consoles, cell phones, music players, and other nostalgic devices. Talk to customers, hear their stories, and see how your decisions impact both their lives and your shop.” I know this game will probably have a very niche appeal, but as someone who had friends doing this exact same kind of work in the 2000s, this calls to me. I’m curious to see if there will be any Nokia 3310s in for repair… I’m just kidding, of course there won’t. Those things were indestructible.

“Welcome to Elderfield is a spooky farming RPG. You can farm, fish, mine, cook, craft, befriend townsfolk, beseech the old gods, investigate mysteries, watch unsettling news programs, get lost in the dead mall, die in your sleep and more. There’s lots to do in Elderfield!” I’m not sure why so many creepy, horror farming and slice-of-life sims are becoming more popular recently, but I’m here for it! Between this and Grave Seasons, I’m ready to get spooked and never set foot on a farm again! Now let me just see what that scarecrow in the cornfield is beckoning me over for…
And that’ll do it for this iteration of Way Too Many Indies Wednesday! Go ahead and wishlist those that caught your eye; that kind of metric really matters for developers and publishers. Also, show support for these games in your own way: follow the devs if you can and spread the word so that these dreams can come rushing forward even faster. There’s always something for someone, so don’t forget to always be searching for the next big game that really speaks to you. If you think there’s a game that should be considered for our roundup, be sure to let us know! Have fun, and keep the indie parade going!
If you missed last weeks picks, here is a quick link to go check them out!
