Indie Wednesday – Survival Is A Must
Welcome to Way Too Many Indies Wednesdays where we highlight four recently released or upcoming indie games that have caught our eye. In a market where so many games can get lost in the shuffle, some true gems can sneak right past us without us knowing. These are the four games this week that we want to keep our eye on, and we think you should as well!
This week is brought to you by our author, Jordan Hawes. This week’s collection will test your survival skills with a colorful ARPG, an Eldritch horror survival fishing game, a retro survival horror set in the Wild West, and survival game set a post apocalyptic frozen world where your respite is a train. Take a look at some of the indies that caught our attention this week and consider checking them out and Wishlisting those that speak to you.

“Fading Echo is a fast-paced elemental action-adventure RPG where creativity fuels combat. Manipulate water, trigger chain reactions, and shift through surreal worlds as One, a young Legend on a mission to save a dying desertscape from the grip of the Paradox corruption.” I like a fun ARPG and what caught my eye with this one is the bright color palette and the unique looking gameplay. The use of manipulating elements for combat and puzzles looks unique and interesting!

“DREADMOOR is a dark first-person fishing adventure game set in a submerged world, rotting from a past catastrophe. Fish in murky waters, upgrade your boat, craft survival gear, and fight monstrous creatures that lurk under the water and on the land.” First of all, Dredge was one of my favorite games of 2023 and DREADMOOR looks like an expanded version of that. Being able to fish in first person and get up close with these monsters looks like exactly what I want.

“God Help Us All is a fixed-camera survival horror game that merges the suffocating dread of classic horror with the brutal grit of the Wild West.” I’m a sucker for a fun Western game, Weird West and Desperados among some of my favorites. God Help Us All brings in that fun Western style and mixes it with retro survival horror and it looks amazing. Survival horrors have been on a rise and I’m looking forward to playing this one!
Frostrail
Developer: FakeFish
Publisher: Shiro Unlimited
Genre: Open World Survival, Crafting, Horror

“Through the frost, death follows the tracks. Dive into a ruthless survival FPS, solo or co-op. Explore, scavenge, craft and fight to endure a frozen, corrupted world. Operate and upgrade your steam-powered train through an unforgiving wasteland, where every choice is a matter of survival.” Frostrail caught my eye not only because I adore snow settings, but also because it looks like a co-op survival Metro Exodus.
And that’ll do it for this iteration of Way Too Many Indies Wednesday! Go ahead and wishlist those that caught your eye; that kind of metric really matters for developers and publishers. Also, show support for these games in your own way: follow the devs if you can and spread the word so that these dreams can come rushing forward even faster. There’s always something for someone, so don’t forget to always be searching for the next big game that really speaks to you. If you think there’s a game that should be considered for our roundup, be sure to let us know! Have fun, and keep the indie parade going!
