Indie Wednesday – Rock, Paper, Scissors, Shoot
Welcome to Way Too Many Indies Wednesdays where we highlight four recently released or upcoming indie games that have caught our eye. In a market where so many games can get lost in the shuffle, some true gems can sneak right past us without us knowing. These are the four games this week that we want to keep our eye on, and we think you should as well!
This week is a spotlight hosted by our author, Heidi Hawes. We have a collection of widely varied games his week, including a retro-inspired prehistoric point-and-click adventure, a dungeon crawler roguelike, a handsy puzzle platformer, and a gun wielding blast of badassery (Is that a word? Well it is now). Take a look at some of these upcoming gems and see what calls to you!

“Outsmart hungry dinosaurs and bloodthirsty barbarians in a wordless point-and-click adventure through a prehistoric world โ with a sci-fi twist.” Taking place in the Stone Age, Theropods pays a loving homage to retro point-and-click games with this wordless adventure that has has you using strategy, distractions, and puzzle-solving skills to survive. It looks like this prehistoric adventure encourages brains over brawn, and I’, here for it!

“A dark paper-styled dungeon crawler where dice decide your fate. Explore procedural dungeons, fight monsters, loot artifacts, and survive the drop.” The esthetic of Paper Rogue immediately caught my attention. An old school dungeon crawler with a paper cutout art design? Yes please! Hopefully this action-packed adventure won’t leave me with too many paper cuts.
The Magician’s Hand

Developer: Laser Rabbit
Publisher: Laser Rabbit
Genre: Exploration, Puzzle Platformer
Platforms: PC (Steam)
Release Date: TBD
Steam
“In this atmospheric puzzle platformer you play as the severed hand of the mysterious Magician Fabrizio. Embarking on an adventure with perspective-shifting mini games and distinctive boss battles. You need find Fabrizio before it is too late!!” This reminds me of 1998’s Glover for the Nintendo 64, and that’s not a bad thing. Blending hand-drawn characters in 3D environments gives this game Who Framed Roger Rabbit? vibes, which I’ll always adore. I can’t wait to learn more about this fancied up version of The Addam’s Family‘s pet, Thing, and see if this scissor-walking protagonist gets slap happy!
SPINE: This is Gun Fu

“‘SPINE is a single-player action game about close-quarters gunfights with aesthetics of Gun Fu movies. Step into the stunning cyberpunk world with rebellious street artist Redline and her sentient combat implant Spine as they defy the autocratic AI regime in search of Redline’s captured brother.” This game is so gorgeous it’s hard to believe it was developed and self-published by a small studio. SPINE looks like a fast-paced, action-packed adventure, filled with bullets, kicks, and fists flying, and I can’t wait to get my hands on it!
And thatโll do it for this iteration of Way Too Many Indies Wednesday! Go ahead and wishlist those that caught your eye; that kind of metric really matters for developers and publishers. Also, show support for these games in your own way: follow the devs if you can and spread the word so that these dreams can come rushing forward even faster. Thereโs always something for someone, so donโt forget to always be searching for the next big game that really speaks to you. If you think thereโs a game that should be considered for our roundup, be sure to let us know! Have fun, and keep the indie parade going!
