Indie Wednesday – Calling All Spirits

Way Too Many Indies Wednesdays

Welcome to Way Too Many Indies Wednesdays where we highlight four recently released or upcoming indie games that have caught our eye. In a market where so many games can get lost in the shuffle, some true gems can sneak right past us without us knowing. These are the four games this week that we want to keep our eye on, and we think you should as well!

This week is a spotlight hosted by the love lover of all things otherworldly, Heidi Hawes. This week’s collection focuses on calling upon spirits, both good and evil. These games go to show that not all spirits are bad, but the ones that are can be deadly. Take a look at what these games conjure up!

“Mix and match hundreds of traits, flaws, and skills to design unique heroes with complex personalities and ambitions. Watch them love, hate, help, and hinder each other. Roll the dice and become the Guiding Spirit of your group of misfits in this story-rich fantasy campaign simulator!” For anyone who is a fan of D&D or other tabletop RPGs, or even those Choose Your Own Adventure books many of us loved when we were younger (or not so young), The Guardian Spirit seems like the perfect way to tell, and experience, your own unique stories. With over a thousand handcrafted scenes and hundreds of character customization options, this is shaping up to be every fantasy-lover’s dream!

“Restore a forgotten village, befriend magical spirits, and uncover the mysteries of a world slowly being overrun by dark magic. As a Spirit Apprentice nearing the end of your studies, youโ€™ll restore a mystical village, form friendships, and perhaps even find romance in this cozy fantasy RPG.” The Spirit Apprentice looks like a sweet, cozy experience on just about every level. Many of the NPCs have hidden backstories that you can unlock by building up your relationships with them, even paving the way to possible romances. Spirits and love are in the air, and I can’t wait to spend some quality, relaxing time with this game.

Perceptum

“A psychological horror game where you play as a medium investigating the disappearance of a family. Explore a house with an oppressive atmosphere, close your eyes to hear the beyond, use your mirror to see what should not exist and uncover the truth hidden within its walls.” Perceptum looks incredible, and it’s hard to believe that a game that looks this good is being developed by just a two-man team. The mirror-based gameplay mechanics look refreshingly original, bringing in a level of immersion that might result in either a heart attack or a pressing need to change my underwear.

Give Us A Sign

Give Us A Sign

Give Us A Sign is a 1-4 player co-op psychological horror simulation. As an investigator, use specialized equipment to detect entities and gather evidence in haunted locations. Every word you speak shapes the haunting around you. Once you ask for a sign, there is no turning back.โ€ 1-4 online co-ops might seems like they often tread the same ground, but Give Us A Sign looks like it’s going to bring new concepts and scares to the table. Hopefully soon I’ll be able to hop on with a few friends and see how long our friendships last after dealing with unrelenting horrors.

And thatโ€™ll do it for this iteration of Way Too Many Indies Wednesday! Go ahead and wishlist those that caught your eye; that kind of metric really matters for developers and publishers. Also, show support for these games in your own way: follow the devs if you can and spread the word so that these dreams can come rushing forward even faster. Thereโ€™s always something for someone, so donโ€™t forget to always be searching for the next big game that really speaks to you. If you think thereโ€™s a game that should be considered for our roundup, be sure to let us know! Have fun, and keep the indie parade going!
