Indie Wednesday – Cave Dives, Dune Rides & Portal Vibes
Welcome to Way Too Many Indies Wednesdays where we highlight four recently released or upcoming indie games that have caught our eye. In a market where so many games can get lost in the shuffle, some true gems can sneak right past us without us knowing. These are the five games this week that we want to keep our eye on, and we think you should as well!
This week is brought to you by our author Jordan Hawes. He has a fun mix of an echolocation action adventure, flashy metriodvania, a fantastic looking single player extraction game you won’t expect, and a physics based puzzle game that could be part of the Portal universe. We hope you enjoy!

“Centuries of living in darkness have robbed your tribe of sight, but in return, you have gained extraordinary hearing. After a tragic turning point in your tribe’s history, you must venture into uncharted caverns filled with monstrous threats. Armed only with a whip and your ability to ‘see’ through sound, you must fight, navigate, and survive in this treacherous new world.” I really enjoy the idea of having to use echolocation to see and having to crack a whip to create the sound vibrations to see things for brief moments. It could lead to hectic and dangerous platforming!
Nocturnal 2
Developer: Sunnyside Games
Publisher: Sunnyside Games

“Nocturnal 2 is an atmospheric action adventure game that invites you to explore the dark depths and towering heights of the city of Ytash.” As a fan of flashy metroidvanias, Nocturnal 2′s fire animations look fantastic. Extremely atmospheric and the hand drawn art looks fantastic!
Shifting Sands

“Shifting Sands is a singleplayer extraction roguelite set on a storm-lashed desert world. Rise from the dust as a scavenger, harvest scrap, explore crashed ships, and upgrade your gear before sandstorms reset the land each day. Push deeper for greater rewards… or retreat before the sands erase it all.” This might be a game I sink so many hours into. Dredge was one of my favorite games of 2023 and this is like that, but with Dune, Star Wars, and Fallout 1 & 2 inspiration? I need the full release right now!
Distant Shore: BRETAGNE
Developer: Distant Shore
Publisher: Distant Shore
Genre: Adventure, Physics, Puzzle
Platforms: PC
Release Date: Coming Soon
Steam

“Distant Shore: BRETAGNE is a first-person parkour physics based game, where you wield your magnetic gauntlets to move, bend and break metal obstacles. Navigate through a ravaged world to complete the mission given by your employer.” This definitely looks like something in the Half-Life or Portal world, the use of the physics looks fantastic. Being able to manipulate any metal object to figure out how to get to your objective looks innovative.
That’s it for this week. I hope you enjoyed what you saw here and if you did please show your support for these indie developers. Go on their socials and show them some love and spread their game around as well so other people can wishlist and support also. See you next week for another Way Too Many Indies Wednesdays.
If you missed last weeks picks, here is a quick link to go check them out!
