Indie Wednesday – Runnin’, Gunnin’, and Stunnin’
Welcome to Way Too Many Indies Wednesdays where we highlight four recently released or upcoming indie games that have caught our eye. In a market where so many games can get lost in the shuffle, some true gems can sneak right past us without us knowing. These are the four games this week that we want to keep our eye on, and we think you should as well!
This week’s collection is brought to you by Jordan Hawes. He is showcasing games that range from a Stardew Valley and Diablo ARPG, a Titanfall inspired PvP, a dark action game with Slavic and Celtic vibes, and a spooky phycological horror game at a circus. It wouldn’t a Jordan list if the genre’s weren’t all over the place! Hopefully there is something in here for everyone, check them out!

“Awaken with no memories inside the Vitromotus, a vast underground world created as a magical dungeon where death no longer lasts. Explore its depths, battle dangerous creatures, rescue survivors, and rebuild the ruined town of Emberville while uncovering the truth behind this prison.” Emberville immediately caught my eye with its gorgeous pixel art, but then I read it is basically a mix Stardew Valley and Diablo!? Sign me up right now.

“Diesel Knights a 6-v-6, Mech/Movement Shooter set in a pulp-inspired, dieselpunk world. Players assume the role of the titular “Knights”, brave gunwalker pilots of the 407th Special Armored Calvary Regiment, and engage in frenetic multiplayer combat both on foot, using advanced parkour movement mechanics and mid-century inspired weapons and gadgets, or in the cockpits of towering, 65-ton, diesel-powered, mechanical battle suits.” Titanfall is perhaps one of the most mistreated IP ever. It’s an absolute fantastic game and it was just thrown to the side. Luckily, Xavier B. Johnson is giving us what we need with Diesel Knights. A Titanfall inspired 6v6 shooter that looks like it’s coming along nicely. This is one I really hope gains traction for all the PvP players.

“TORNBLADE is a dark action game combining top-down exploration with direct side-scroll combat, inspired by the uncompromising spirit of classic games from the 80s and 90s, and shaped by Slavic and Celtic atmosphere.” I’m a sucker for a brutal medieval combat game and TORNBLADE looks like it’s going to deliver on that. I also love the Slavic and Celtic atmosphere in here.
At Night: Freakshow

“You are not here to watch the Freakshow. You are one of its acts. A freak. Pretend to be mute, speak through your parrot, train with freaks, learn their ways, and participate in the Freakshow to deliver a spectacular performance they will never forget.” Indie horror can be a bit hit or miss for me because a lot of the time they rely too much on jump scares and less slower tension building. That’s why At Night: Freakshow really caught my eye because Limeless seems to understand that horror isn’t just about quick scares. There is a dense uneasiness set through the whole thing and everything feels off already. I can tell the tension is going to be high as you keep expecting something nasty to happen. It looks really great.
And that’ll do it for this iteration of Way Too Many Indies Wednesday! Go ahead and wishlist those that caught your eye; that kind of metric really matters for developers and publishers. Also, show support for these games in your own way: follow the devs if you can and spread the word so that these dreams can come rushing forward even faster. There’s always something for someone, so don’t forget to always be searching for the next big game that really speaks to you. If you think there’s a game that should be considered for our roundup, be sure to let u know! Have fun, and keep the indie parade going!
If you missed last weeks picks, here is a quick link to go check them out!
