Indie Wednesday – Light & Dark

Way Too Many Indies Wednesdays

Welcome to Way Too Many Indies Wednesdays where we highlight four recently released or upcoming indie games that have caught our eye. In a market where so many games can get lost in the shuffle, some true gems can sneak right past us without us knowing. These are the four games this week that we want to keep our eye on, and we think you should as well!

This week’s collection is brought to you by Jordan Hawes and the theme this week is a that we need a balance of light and darkness in our life. What’s a little lighthearted joy without some dark tense fear? This week we have a fun collection of games that range from a pizza platformer, dark fantasy dungeon crawler, a Saturday morning cartoon, and then we end with a immersive sim souls-like. Come check them out!

“In Pizzapocalypse 2 use your pizza to bounce, swing and dash in this 3D platformer! Explore different countries, and put a stop to the greedy corporation selling Pizza-in-a-can!” – Are you tired of playing as an Italian plumber and instead want to play as an Italian pizza maker? Well, look no further than Pizzapocalypse 2! This fun platformer caught my eye with its humorous story setup and great gameplay concepts using pizzas in various ways to get around.

“Descend into a cursed fortress in this retro-style dungeon crawler where darkness is both your greatest ally and deadliest threat. Gather priceless treasure, face Lovecraftian horrors and decide how much you’re willing to risk before greed consumes you.” – Greed & Darkness looks like such a great fresh take on the dungeon crawler genre. It features some really cool ideas, and some even better looking art! Holy moly that pixel art and animation is gorgeous!

“Join Flare, the grooviest bounty hunter, as she battles notorious criminals for fame and fortune in this stylish 2D beat ’em up. Enter a colorful, hand-drawn world, and unleash fiery kicks, hair attacks, and chaotic combos—each showdown moving her closer to the ultimate funky hideaway!” – Dynamite Flare looks straight out of those 90’s cartoon arcade beat ’em ups and I’m here for it. I definitely see some inspiration with the combat finishing moves from Battletoads, which will always pull at my nostalgia.

Hark the Ghoul

Hark the Ghoul

“Slash, kick and magick your way through an adventure brimming with secrets and curious encounters! HARK THE GHOUL offers a meticulously handcrafted world to explore.” – Hark the Ghoul has a really awesome looking dynamic gameplay system not only for combat, but for traversal as well. The pixel art is also fantastically done.

And that’ll do it for this iteration of Way Too Many Indies Wednesday! Go ahead and wishlist those that caught your eye; that kind of metric really matters for developers and publishers. Also, show support for these games in your own way: follow the devs if you can and spread the word so that these dreams can come rushing forward even faster. There’s always something for someone, so don’t forget to always be searching for the next big game that really speaks to you. If you think there’s a game that should be considered for our roundup, be sure to let u know! Have fun, and keep the indie parade going!
