Indie Wednesday – Slashing Meats, Serving Treats, and Eldritch Greets

Way Too Many Indies Wednesdays

Welcome to Way Too Many Indies Wednesdays where we highlight four recently released or upcoming indie games that have caught our eye. In a market where so many games can get lost in the shuffle, some true gems can sneak right past us without us knowing. These are the four games this week that we want to keep our eye on, and we think you should as well!

This week is brought to you by our author Heidi Hawes. This collection of four games are mostly horror-themed, but there’s a weird, gritty retro RPG in there for something a little different. In this selection we have a retro point-and-click slasher, a donut making simulator, a life sim RPG with and eldritch twist, and a turned-based buddy cop RPG. All of these exciting titles will be coming soon on Steam, so be sure to check them out!

The Bagman is an authentic retro 16-bit horror point and click/survival horror that layers in stealth, commandable NPCs, and gratuitous slasher gore! Time and events continually tick forward, and any of your friends can die. Many paths to follow, multiple endings. Will you survive?”  As long-time fan of point-and-click adventure games, as well as someone with a voracious appetite for all things horror, The Bagman has my full interest as a painstakingly crafted love letter to slashers.

“Order up! DONUT PANIC is an anomaly horror game with a cooking sim twist. Take customer orders. Prepare and serve up delicious donuts. But when the hallucinations appear, run for your life. Your panic room is there for a reason…” Donuts? Check. Friendly customers? Check. Trying not to fall into a pit of my own insanity? Checkeroo! I can’t wait to take a bite out this deliciously macabre game from solo developer, Kyle Banks, creator of the award-winning game Farwell North.

“After quitting her dead-end job, Fiona starts over on a farm and becomes the immortal herald of a dead god. Make friends, fight through horrors and pay your debt in this nightmarish life sim RPG.” Not gonna lie, they had me at quitting my dead-end job. The Eldritch gods are just a bonus. Neverway looks Like Stardew Valley meets Lovecraft and I’m here for it.

My Familiar

My Familiar

“Yo! Welcome to ‘MY FAMILIAR’. In this RPG, wake up as a fresh familiar on the mean streets of Wish City, where the denizens are dark and corruption is king… Fight, flee, and aggressively rap your way through a vibrant inner city gauntlet, chock full of dysfunctional demons, in flashy, over the top, turn-based battles.” My Familiar looks off-the-wall bonkers in all the best ways. Weird and gritty, while still retaining a retro esthetic. I’ll be checking out the demo soon and I encourage you as well!

And that’ll do it for this iteration of Way Too Many Indies Wednesday! Go ahead and wishlist those that caught your eye; that kind of metric really matters for developers and publishers. There’s always something for someone, so don’t forget to always be searching for the next big game that really speaks to you. If you think there’s a game that should be considered for our roundup, be sure to let us know! Have fun, and keep the indie parade going!

If you missed last weeks picks, here is a quick link to go check them out!
