Indie Wednesday – Werewolves and Aliens and Canadians, Oh My!

Way Too Many Indies Wednesdays

Welcome to Way Too Many Indies Wednesdays where we highlight four recently released or upcoming indie games that have caught our eye. In a market where so many games can get lost in the shuffle, some true gems can sneak right past us without us knowing. These are the four games this week that we want to keep our eye on, and we think you should as well!

This week is a spotlight hosted by Jordan Hawes. This week’s collection is all over the place, but that matches my taste in games. We have a Metriodvania, sci-fi/horror, co-op tower defense, and first-person dark fantasy roguelike. While I have a wide taste in games, hopefully there is something here that catches your eye also, check them out!

Legion of Judgment is a Noir action-RPG Metroidvania game that offers a new and deeper player experience. Explore forgotten memories to become stronger, manage a hotel in reality to create a powerful legion and win the war against werewolf guild.” This Korean based dev had me with the slick action and Metriodvania styled level design and gameplay, but then they hit me with a war on a werewolf guild? What!? There is base building and creating armies to wage wars? Sounds like the kind of crazy I’m into!

Project Blue Files: Classified

“Explore declassified UFO cases inspired by real Project Blue Book investigations. A first-person horror experience where some sightings were explained — and others were not…” When I fist saw this game, the initial thought was it looked like playing a video game version of Signs, or Fire in the Sky, which are two of my favorite alien movies. Looking into the dev more, that’s exactly what they were going for and that sold me.

Wild Ice

“When the world froze over, humanity’s survival is left to the blades of its most unlikely heroes: small town hockey players! Explore, build traps, and dangle your way to victory against hordes of frost zombies as you fight to restore heat in this open-world action tower defense adventure!” Wild Ice is a great example of why I love the indie scene so much. Just a couple of Canadian devs making a co-op 3rd person action tower defense game, and it looks really dang good! These two are very talented and the unique gameplay and ideas of using skating and hockey for theme is awesome.

Darkest Path

Darkest Path

Darkest Path is a 2.5D roguelike FPS that merges a modern-retro aesthetic with cosmic horror. Navigate through shifting nightmare realms, master diverse character classes, and survive the brutal corruption of a decaying world.” Darkest Path is the kind of dark fantasy art that I absolutely love. It’s gritty, it’s brutal, it has badass designs, and the pixel art here is fantastic. I also happen to love me a good roguelike, so I’m definitely trying this one out.

And that’ll do it for this iteration of Way Too Many Indies Wednesday! Go ahead and wishlist those that caught your eye; that kind of metric really matters for developers and publishers. Also, show support for these games in your own way: follow the devs if you can and spread the word so that these dreams can come rushing forward even faster. There’s always something for someone, so don’t forget to always be searching for the next big game that really speaks to you. If you think there’s a game that should be considered for our roundup, be sure to let u know! Have fun, and keep the indie parade going!

If you missed last weeks picks, here is a quick link to go check them out!
